The Power of Alignment in Leadership
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
Why Alignment is the Secret to High-Performing Teams
Have you ever been on a team where everything felt effortless? Where communication flowed, collaboration was seamless, and everyone was moving in the same direction? Now, think about the opposite—teams where miscommunication, confusion, and disengagement are the norm. The difference? Alignment.
Alignment isn’t just about having a well-crafted strategy or an inspiring vision; it’s about ensuring that every level of an organization—leaders, teams, and individuals—are moving in sync toward a common goal. In our latest episode of The Leadership Vision Podcast, we dive into the four key areas of alignment and why they matter.
The Four Areas of Alignment:
- Organizational Alignment – When strategy, culture, and execution are in harmony, teams thrive. “Just that experience alone does so much to the human psyche and the emotional side of who we are,” says Brian Schubring. “People feel enthusiastic, energized, and connected.”
- Leadership Alignment – Leaders set the tone for alignment. “We find that a leading indicator of organizations that are very much aligned is a leader that is willing to walk the tightrope, balancing the whole organization,” says Linda Schubring.
- Team Alignment – Trust, motivation, and clarity of purpose are key indicators of team alignment. “When an organization is aligned, you can feel it in how teams work together,” explains Nathan Freeburg.
- Personal & Interpersonal Alignment – Leaders and team members need to maintain their own well-being to contribute effectively to alignment. “When I’m not having fun, I know something is misaligned,” shares Linda Schubring.
How to Build Alignment in Your Team
- Be Clear on Purpose: Ensure your mission and values are communicated consistently.
- Encourage Open Communication: Make space for conversations about alignment at all levels.
- Prioritize Trust: When people feel seen, heard, and understood, alignment follows.
- Check In Regularly: Alignment is not a one-time achievement—it’s an ongoing process.
What’s Your Alignment Indicator?
Each of us has personal indicators that tell us when we’re in alignment—whether it’s a sense of clarity, motivation, or even just feeling more energized at work. “For me, alignment shows up when I feel that strong sense of unity in a group, like when I’m training with competitive athletes,” says Brian Schubring.
