A Personal and Professional Development Exercise
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
In this episode, we explore self-awareness and growth with Brian Shubring. Together, we delve into the intricacies of personal development, a journey that requires self-awareness and a commitment to growth and intentional living.
Our conversation highlights how our own reflections can set the stage for leadership, parenting, and social successes. We also share some of our own experiences, providing a blueprint for executives and anyone eager to craft their day-to-day life with intention. This candid conversation illustrates the profound impact of nurturing a relationship with oneself and the power of habits. We hope this conversation encourages you to take those small, yet vital steps towards a fulfilling life. Enjoy!
Personal and Professional Development
Throughout our conversation, Brian shares his insights on how to cultivate strong habits and foster a nurturing relationship with oneself. Below we highlight his best advice for personal and professional development.
Incremental Changes
Start small. Brian highlights the importance of consistent, incremental changes over time instead of grand gestures of transformation. The dance of self-improvement, as he describes it, is complex and requires a rhythmic approach.
Daily habits
Daily actions make an impact. The habits we engage in every day set the stage for our broader success. Brian and I discuss emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual self-care and reinforce the message that personal development lies in daily practice.
Self Check-ins
Self-awareness can be developed with intentional reflection. Check-in with yourself or with a trusted friend, co-worker, or loved one. By interlacing self-reflection with trusted conversations, we can develop self-awareness that resonates with authenticity.
Self Connection
Remember to connect with yourself. Beyond daily routines, its important to have outlets to reconnect with parts of ourselves that may be neglected during the week. For example, Nathan’s Thursday night gatherings with other dads serve as a sacred space for both light-hearted conversations and deeper, meaningful conversations, offering much-needed perspective.
Balance
Not everything requires perfection. It is this balance of knowing when to strive for excellence and when to embrace imperfection that is essential for personal growth.
