Book Announcement! Unfolded: Lessons in Transformation from an Origami Crane
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
We’ve got BIG news. After years of dreaming, writing, reflecting, and rewriting, we’re thrilled to announce our upcoming book: Unfolded: Lessons in Transformation from an Origami Crane, coming out June 4, 2025 – pre-order now!
In this episode, we unveil a deeply personal and professional milestone. Dr. Linda Schubring and Brian Schubring share the journey behind their new book, Unfolded, a story-filled allegory centered on leadership, growth, and transformation.
What Is Unfolded: Lessons in Transformation from an Origami Crane?
Unfolded is part allegory, part leadership guide, and part invitation to self-reflection. It follows OC (short for Origami Crane), a female protagonist who lives in a world of origami animals, each folded from unique maps. OC dreams not just of becoming something different but also of discovering the deep meaning hidden within her own folds.
This story, woven from Linda and Brian’s lived experiences, is about more than just change. It’s about the transformative power of reflection, relationship, and reframing.
The shape you’re in today isn’t permanent. Like origami, you can unfold, reflect, and refold into something new. – Brian Schubring
Why an Allegory?
Rather than writing a how-to guide or textbook, Brian and Linda chose the format of an allegory to reflect the layered nature of transformation. Allegories invite readers to find their own meaning, to see themselves in the characters, and to uncover insight in unexpected ways.
Themes You’ll Explore:
- The origami metaphor: how we’re shaped by relationships, experiences, and environments
- The tension between staying folded vs. choosing to unfold
- Leadership as a process of reflection and transformation
- The importance of community in discovering and fulfilling our potential
- How the map of our life holds answers already within us
From the Authors
“Some folds were intentional—some accidental. But every crease holds a story,” shares Linda. OC’s journey is your invitation to reflect on your own journey—what you’re hiding, what you’re dreaming, and who you’re becoming.
Brian adds, “This isn’t a manual, it’s a mirror. We hope Unfolded inspires readers to look deeper at the stories within themselves and find the courage to reshape their future.”
Meditations Throughout the Book
One unique feature of Unfolded: Lessons in Transformation from an Origami Crane is the inclusion of meditations—poetic reflections from Brian, written in the early hours of the day. These serve as gentle invitations to pause, reflect, and take action on your own path of transformation.
Here’s a preview from a meditation not included in the book:
There is a beauty and brilliance within each of us to accept, awaken, and amplify. Our map is an uncharted landscape awaiting for us to encounter. For here within the unexpected and the unknown lies everything we need—answers, clarity, abilities, and dreams.
What We Hope You Take Away
We want readers to reflect on their own story. What dreams are you living, and who shaped those dreams? What relationships shape your life?
There is hope. There’s potential within all of us, waiting to be unfolded and shared. – Brian Schubring
