Leading In-Pandemic and Leading Post-Pandemic
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
Like many of you, I am trying to figure out what life looks like right now during this “in-pandemic” time. How do I get work done when our kids are at home? How do our kids get any school work done when both my wife and I need to be on video calls? What does the business look like right now? What is our current financial situation, both personally and professionally, and will that last until this is over?
So many important questions, but we also have to think about the “post-pandemic” time. In two or six or twelve months, when life goes back to “normal,” how do we begin to develop a more thoughtful normal?
Today on the podcast, Brian and Linda Schubring, our president and vice president, chat with me about what Leadership Vision is doing to help our clients right now, during this “in-pandemic” time. We also talk about how we’re trying to set them up for success “post-pandemic.“
Topics Discussed
- how we’ve adjusted to an all-virtual delivery system
- highlights from our virtual preview experiences
- how we’ve begun helping clients engage meaningful personal and professional connections with their employees about today
- having the big conversations in preparation for the post-pandemic realities we will all be facing down the road.
We also share specific takeaways for you, as an individual, to think about both for today and tomorrow, so listen now!
What are we doing?
Our team has been working hard to adapt our material and the language of Strengths. We’ve been talking with a plethora of leadership from a variety of companies to better understand their unique needs during this unprecedented time. Our behavior-based approach to Strengths and strong people, teams, and culture is essentially the same. What’s different is the focus and context for our work in this new virtual world.
We’ve begun asking people these questions about how they are reacting in this time of crisis. We examine emotions and look at the emotional side of this.
We ask questions like, “how are you REALLY feeling right now?” and, “How are those feelings and emotions affecting you and the emotions of others?” We then turn to look at the concept of grief. How do we name the things we are longing for? For example, someone might say, “I wish life were like it used to be three weeks ago!” We also help people identify the things that we lost that we probably know are never going to get back to the way they were. Part of this process is to give ourselves and others permission to grieve. Finally, what kinds of personal adaptations are we making, and what types of collective commitments do we need to make to one another to make it through right now?
