Learning to Change The Way We See Ourselves (Podcast)
Welcome to the next installment of the Leadership Vision Podcast, where we share our expertise in the discovery, practice, and implementation of StrengthsFinder.
We have five great episodes in the works and are excited to share them with you. They are part of two series we’re doing, focused on helping teams build Strengths Based organizational culture.
The first is with a CEO of a tech firm in our home base, the Twin Cities. They are one of our oldest clients, and now, our relationship is more of a partnership. Linda and I will be interviewing him to learn more about what it takes – the good, the bad, and the ugly – to truly transform a mid-sized organization to be focused on Strengths.
The second series is with Aleasha Morris, another one of our consultants, whom you haven’t heard on the podcast before. She is our team expert, and she and I will be going over our team engagement model over the course of several episodes.
So today on the show, we’re doing something a little different. Instead of our typical style of me interviewing a member of our team, it’ll just be me, sharing something designed to encourage you, the individual, to change the way you see yourself. To re-program the potentially harmful tapes we have playing in our heads about who we are.
This podcast is the audio version of a post I wrote in 2017 of the same name; Changing The Way You See Yourself. There’s a book I read to my kids called the “Pout-Pout” fish by Deborah Diesen. It’s about a blue fish who swims around all day, being glum and spreading the “dreary wearies.” Despite other fish trying to convince him this isn’t his real destiny, he insists, “this is just the way I am.”
In this short episode, you’ll hear;
- The ways we accept and reinforce negative images and ideas about who we are
- How Strengths can begin to help us reframe those ideas, and craft positive soundbites
- Three specific suggestions for transforming negative thoughts into positive ones about how we view ourselves
