Unveiling Strengths and Building Team Culture: Insights from The Learning Community
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
Have you ever imagined your personal Strengths as a vivid image, telling the captivating story of who you are as a professional? In this episode, we delve into a unique aspect of how we build positive team culture within organizations – the Learning Community (or Picture Day as it has become know as to some of our long standing clients). This process involves creating visual narratives to help individuals and teams understand their unique Strengths results. The episode provides a fascinating insight into how visual storytelling can enhance team dynamics and personal growth. Enjoy!
The Power of Visual Narratives in Understanding Strengths
In our conversation, Dr. Linda and Brian discuss their method of representing an individual’s Strengths through customized images. These images are crafted after in-depth one-on-one conversations with team members, where their stories and Strengths are attentively listened to. This personalized approach results in visual narratives that not only reflect the individual’s Strengths but also resonate deeply with them and their teammates. Images, and the stories we tell from those images, can help build relationships within teams and provide insights into our Strengths.
Case Study 1: A CEO
The first image discussed in this episode involves a leader depicted as a pilot. This visual metaphor excellently captures her Strengths, which are Strategic, Positivity, Input, Individualization, and Futuristic. The image reflects her ability to navigate complexities and engage her team towards a positive future. Linda mentioned how this leader’s team responded enthusiastically to the image, affirming its accuracy in capturing her essence.
Case Study 2: A CFO
The second case study focuses on a CFO portrayed as an air traffic controller. This metaphor beautifully encapsulates her Strengths of Learner, Arranger, Analytical, Achiever, and Individualization. The image effectively conveys her ability to manage the broader organizational picture while paying attention to individual details. Brian shares how the CFO’s reaction and the team’s feedback emphasized the image’s effectiveness in capturing her unique approach to her role.
The analogy of pilot and air traffic controller highlights the close collaboration between the CFO and CEO, with the CFO guiding financial operations like an air traffic controller orchestrating safe air traffic flow. It also emphasized the CFO’s influence on financial health and their partnership with the CEO in achieving financial goals. Overall, we found that this image underscored the CFO’s importance in ensuring the organization’s success.
Reflection Question
How well do you understand the Strengths of your team members, and how might visual narratives help deepen this understanding? For an easy activity, use Google Image search, and try to find images that reflect your understanding of how your Strengths show up for you.
