Three Big Changes at Leadership Vision
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast, our show helping you build a positive team culture. Our consulting firm has been doing this work for the past 25 years, ensuring that leaders are mentally engaged and emotionally healthy.
In this episode, we discuss three big changes that we’re going through at Leadership Vision. We talk about why and how these changes have an effect on you, our listeners, readers, and watchers, and then share a little bit about our change process and how we arrived here.
Inevitably you will face some changes this year. Maybe you’re going through one right now. Our hope is that this episode can be not only a resource, but also a source of motivation and encouragement when you inevitably feel stuck or lost. So get out a notepad and listen up because this is gonna be a good one!
Why are we talking about change?
There are some significant changes that have happened and are happening here at Leadership Vision, and we want to have the chance to begin to explain not only what the changes are but how we arrived at them.
Remember, this process of change isn’t just happening for the sake of change. Change often happens through some type of navigation or things not going as planned. It starts with a reflection on what’s going on around us. Why is this happening? Is this really effective? Sometimes change happens to us or we instigate change and they’re both good. Sometimes change allows us to let go of things that are no longer serving us. What was happening for us at Leadership Vision wasn’t reflecting how we thought we needed to move into the future. To move into the future, some things had to change.
For all of us at Leadership Vision, there was this rising awareness of what was happening around us, not just globally or nationally, but with our business and our clients. We were seeing changes happening around us and we weren’t meeting those changes with the type of work that we were really capable of, but the pieces were there. There were pieces that were laying around that we had done throughout the year or things that we were planning, things that we were working on, and we thought, if only we could rearrange these pieces, we could create a mosaic of what Leadership Vision can provide for the changes that are happening all around us.
The Journey of Change
We want to invite you on the journey of the ways that we have navigated some of these changes. One of the things that shifted and became most clear was our focus on positive team cultures more than just Strengths. We wanted to provide catalytic change that ripples into communities, and into the clients that we serve. So with that, there are three new areas of focus that we’d love to share a little bit more about.
Three Changes at Leadership Vision
1. A Focus on Culture
When we identified our niche of understanding, influencing, and helping to create positive team culture, that positive team culture phrase was a light bulb moment. When working with and listening to clients navigate issues, we realized they weren’t actually asking for help with team development, they were surfacing a need that fell into what was happening within the culture. It could have been within the culture of their city, their company, or team, but it was a cultural identity, a cultural name, a cultural need.
We repeatedly heard four themes that were central to what people were talking about when they were talking about the needs of their culture. There is a cultural need for people to be able to connect. Leaders were saying, we are struggling with how to create an opportunity for meaningful connection to happen within this culture. Another theme we heard was, how do we deepen our knowing of one another. There was this relational knowing that seemed to be lacking. Another theme was how to specifically invest in a team culture or invest in people. And perhaps one of the most important themes that we heard over and over again was how a team culture can keep them mentally engaged or emotionally healthy.
It’s important for us to used the phrase positive team culture because a positive culture can be most influential or can be shaped the most within a team context. A team is still the place where we do most of our work, but it’s this identification of what’s happening within the team culture and how is it that we can still invest in people and help equip leaders to create a positive team culture.
We know that creating that culture requires investment into people as individuals. We are hoping to create that love, excitement, and joy that can come with working together so that people can leave their work groups and be inspired to create positive team cultures that ripples out to their communities.
2. A Focus on Building Online Resources
The second focus is on building online resources with courses and community. This year we are creating a lot more resources around this idea of positive team culture. We know that people are looking for resources for the development of people, teams, and team culture, and they’re looking for something to be available on demand online ready with ongoing support. One of the things we’re focusing on is how we can be a provider of resources for personal and team development that are accessible to everyone and anyone.
3. A Focus on Publishing and Speaking
Our third area of distinct change for us is a focus on publishing and speaking. Keynote facilitation has been something that people have been responding to because of some of the needs that they have had. We’ve been working and tweaking our process and we’re excited to give people a chance to gather more individuals together in one place and have a greater impact on some of the initiatives that people are really engaged in.
Keynote facilitation with groups gives us a chance to respond to the needs that companies have. It allows us to create something very specific for our larger group of people and using the facilitation skills that we’ve developed over the years to make that setting highly conversational and interactive.
Another focus is for keynote settings to be hyper relational events that create more connections within that context. It’s not enough to bring people together just to talk to them, we need to create opportunities where people can talk with each other as well as being informed by someone else.
Quick Tips About the Change Process
If you’re someone that’s going through change, we wanted to share a couple of quick things that we’ve learned that might be inspirational or motivational.
1. Change for the Sake of Change
Change for the sake of change isn’t really helpful, but change because you know why you need to change is.
What we have focused specifically on is trying to answer the questions, why are we making this change? What will be the outcome? And what is the takeaway for people that are receiving our services?
2. What changes do you need to make in your life to achieve your goals?
Sometimes the change is actually listening to the person that’s giving you advice or reflecting back to you. Sometimes it’s letting people give you advice or dream for you and then for you to take the steps to step into that vision.
3. Change is a loving response to the invitation of our dreams and visions
The changes that Leadership Vision is going through are not just organizational changes. They’re also a reflection of the personal changes that we are going through. There are specific voices that are shaping both our personal lives and our professional lives which gives a greater sense of boldness, courage, confidence, and compassion for us to make mistakes along the way. They also allow us to take risks because we have people that lovingly nudge us into a new reality.
