How to Work with Someone with Very Different Strengths than You
Welcome to the Leadership Vision Podcast where we share our expertise in the discovery, practice, and implementation of a strengths-based approach to people, teams, and culture.
On this episode of the podcast, we host a conversation between two of our consultants, Logan and Carrie, and listen in as thye process their journey of working with one another through their very different Strengths.
Before jumping into this conversation, think about the last time you were working on a project with someone. It doesn’t matter who it was, or what the project was about.
- What were your interactions with them like?
- Was it smooth sailing because you understood each other perfectly?
- Or was it a little bumpy, as you attempted to navigate the waves of differences in personality, preferences, and/or perceived Strengths.
If you’re like, well, basically everyone, there were probably some bumps, even if the project you were working on was one you understood well and the person you were working with was someone you knew well.
All of us have a preferred way of interacting with the world. We prefer to communicate, gather information, make decisions, and a host of other things in certain specific ways that make sense to us. It’s when we start interacting with others that we realize how different we all are. And unless you’re living and working on an isolated Island with no human interaction, the key to success is learning HOW to make all of these difference go in the same direction at the same time to accomplish your goal.

On this episode, you’ll hear Logan and Carrie describe a recent project they worked on together, and the different ways they approached it. You’ll also get to hear them process how their individual Strengths showed up, caused some conflict, and then how they navigated through it to a new better understanding of each other as it related to their working relationship.
If there is one thing you take away from this conversation, it’s that any two people can successfully work together, no matter how different they may appear, as long as they take a posture of assuming positive intent and staying curious
